As 2024 ends, we want to extend a warm thank you to everyone who has contributed to the project so far. The second operational year has been eventful and marked by significant activity, with several milestones achieved both within the project and by the industry partners.
Together, we have accomplished key results such as:
- Reuse of ropes and feed pipes, including testing and cleaning of various materials.
- Early testing of antifouling agents on nets and documentation of the condition of used pipes.
- Recycling of HDPE nets and the production of new products using recycled materials.
- Environmental documentation, including EPDs for equipment and recycled materials.
- Traceability throughout the value chain, with proof of concept and delivery of a digital product passport.
- Testing and qualification of PE pipes, including fatigue testing at Norner and planning for tests in SINTEF Ocean’s marine tank at Tyholt early next year.
- Opening of ScaleAQ Circular on Frøya, a facility for decommissioned equipment.
- Construction of a new recycling facility at Hallingplast, enabling the use of recycled material in new equipment.
- A new granulation line for ropes at Oceanize.
We have also had the pleasure of involving students in the project, including master’s students from OsloMet, summer students from NTNU, and a part-time student at ScaleAQ contributing to eco-design and testing. This strengthens our vision of building knowledge and innovation for the future.
The SirkAQ project aims to drive the transition from a linear to a circular economy in aquaculture. Through hard work, close collaboration, and a clear vision, we have taken another step forward in this critical transformation. Over the past year, we have shared our experiences and results at several seminars and conferences both in Norway and internationally.
We look forward to 2025, when we will continue working together towards a more sustainable aquaculture industry. In the meantime, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
All the best,
The SirkAQ Team
